The two attached pictures were part of a recent article in the Long Beach Press Telegram about the NCAA National Championship Football game between Texas and Alabama. It was a fine article about two storied football coaches and programs: USC’s John McKay and Alabama’s Bear Bryant. The article spoke of Coach Bryant’s attempt to integrate black players into the Alabama football program especially after USC’s Sam “Bam” Cunningham starred in the 1970 matchup at Alabama and then again in 1971 at the Coliseum.
